The New Header...Up Close and Personal!
Time to take a closer look at the new blog header, identify some of this fantastic artwork, and do some much deserved name-dropping!
The upper left corner features a dark haired beauty by Val Mayerik which appeared on the cover of Marvel's SSOC #22. Next to that, a classic Conan piece by Margaret Brundage (the cover of the May 1934 issue of Weird Tales), and just to the right of that is my favorite of these first few, a Boris Vallejo painting from SSOC #7!
Above the Boris piece is a Barry Windsor Smith Conan (a cover piece from Marvel's Conan the Barbarian Annual King Size #1). Nearby, an enraged Conan by none other than Gary Gianni, and I surely don't need to tell you who's responsible for the painting next to that (or for that matter, which of these three is my personal favorite)...if you don't know, then you're obviously lost, so click here and get lost bub!
To Arnie's right is some Gil Kane artwork (from Conan the Barbarian #67), and tucked under that Conan's armpit (pee-yew) is a Joe Kubert piece (look here)...to his immediate right, a John Ridgeway cover from the controversial Prion REH Conan book published in '09.
Last but not least, on the far right is a Joe Jusko painting from Marvel's SSOC #154, which I added because I went and made the blog wider (to hopefully address some technical issues), but more importantly because Joe needs to be represented...he's a superb artist, and a super nice guy to boot!
If I made any mistakes along the way, I've little doubt that someone will set me straight. And yah, I missed a couple in there, so if you fill us in on the artists responsible then you can come and claim your no-prize!
Of course there are many, many more Conan artists that could be added to this header, but that's one damn fine selection! If Crom gave a crap about your actions on this earth, I suspect that he'd be mighty proud of you Bliss!
