The Eagle (2011)

In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum Channing) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth.

Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Jamie Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth.
- Wikipedia

There are some terrifically violent scenes of Roman warfare that is accurate for the time. Not to mention what we learn about Roman medicine and the importance that honor played in their society.

Tatum Channing is surprisingly good as the Roman centurion who carries with him a shame of a father who lost the coveted Eagle. He really goes above and beyond to wipe that shame from his life. There are much nashing of teeth and bashing of skulls to accompany their adventure.

7/10 - A historical adventure with realism that takes you back to the time when Rome ruled southern Britain.
