I would never believe I know better than an immigration expert such as Rajiv Khanna. However, this issue became prominent after 9/11 and there were dozens of people whose spouse died in the towers who were in adjustment of status process. They had US citizen children etc etc.
It is my understanding that a ruling took place that in such circumstances the dependent could still stay here and become permanent resident.
I have no links to post but remember this being a hot topic. Maybe a search in the immigration sites regarding this horrible situation.
My heart goes out to this lady and child. Bad enough losing ones spouse but having to leave your home too is just plain wrong.

ya i spoke to another friend of mine whose parents went for english interview at new delhi. without any request, the american officer asked them questions in hindi, which made them very comfortable. so, i think anyone wanting a hindi appointment and been waiting for 1-2 months can try the option of englsih. i will post my experience next week after my in-laws' interview in english.

I am the guy who did the "Quit America Movement" Polls to see how many of us really feel they are highly skilled. I was amazed that we really have some talented people here who beleive in themselves. I strongly beleive that talent alone is not enough to acheive your Dream / American Dream, you also need to beleive in what you have and make bold decisions to overcome obstacles.
Now here is my proposal to all those who think you can contribute to this. This is a original idea of mine and I had been thinking about it for more than 3 years. I talked about this to few people and everyone said it was a great idea. I would like to call this proposal as the "Marriage between Television and E Commerce"
The foundation for the proposal is drawn from these few facts.
1)An average american spends more than 3hrs voluntarily in front of the television. The rest of the world's middle class consumer population also spends lot of time in front of the TV
2)TV and Internet technologies can be converged or it is already converging.
3) A picture is worth a thousand words
Now the technology part of the plan is as follows
What if we can broadcast a television program were anything on the TV frame at the any moment can be searched, compared, purchased. e.g Let us assume a simple scene of a couple walking through the park and there is a wedding happening in the backdrop. The park could be a tourist attraction, it could be used for planning small events or weddings, there could be beautiful plants or flowers, the park could have a well done landscaping, etc
Now the technology part and business
What if a person can press a button on the remote to index that scene for later review or just press another button which shows red dots on all the things that has some searchable or marketable content on that page. The viewer will be able to navigate to the item ot part he wants to see details. Let us say he navigates to some beautiful flower and selects to see information. We can use technology to push the information for the flower on his TV screen. Then we can also show the list of companies who sell that in his area and if he wishes he can choose one of them and place an order for that using his remote. With todays technology the viewers credit line can be tied to the addressable cable box by the bank (just like a credit card company issues a credit for a person)
Now how do we create those red dots and information
We can use image recoginition technology to index the points of interest in each frame in a TV program. We can link the object or itmes to a database which has the information about it and the vendors who sell that.
NOW THE COMMERICAL PART
IF THIS CAN BE DONE CABLE TV CAN BE FREE with no commercial or conventional TV ads FOR ALL VIEWERS WHO CAN GET A CREDIT APPROVAL.

Not all of them in h1b are applying gc. Top 5 H1B Indian companies TCS,CTS Wipro,Satyam and Infosys are not processing GC. So less than 40% of people only apply gc. In that some of them are not serious. So if 650k people comes on H1b Only 200 to 300k people should have applied Gc. 70% of H1b persons are Eb3. So EB3 is in very bad shape. Also no adjustment was done for H1B increase from 2001 to 2004 to 195K. If some temporary relief is done by giving one time increase of 100k to 200k gc will make PD picture much brighter
My estimate only includes students and H1B from India and China ONLY. Please read the assumptions. It does not include Philipines, ROW, Mexico EB3s at all. Neither does it include spouse/dependent data from H1Bs. It also does not include EB applications made by applicants on other visas such as L1, etc. It also does not include all those applicants who have been in the US prior to the cutoff dates but have been unable to start their GC process sooner than the cut off dates. Finally, it does not include any data from October 2005-present because the information is not yet available. Considering all the numbers that are left out....I feel that it should easilty cover the applicants who have gone back, students who have converted to H1Bs, etc. In fact, I am almost sure that the number is probably higher than what I have estimated.

Thanks Everyone. I basically got the idea. I should have never mailed in first place, just gone to office in person, and not confused with old expired visa, i-94 etc, just shown the I-797. I will take an appointment with DMV and go in person, and take it from there. But it was really big help to hear from all of you and to know that this is not uncommon situation.
Ironically, I got my license at a time when they didn't check all this, they used to give for five years expiring at ur birthdate. Hence I just today got renewal by internet option for myself.
Once again, thank you all very much. I will let you know my experience on this thread after I visit DMV.

I 1 million % agree with Munna Bhai and his statements. American desi, AC21 is meaningless if you get GC from new employer and informing USCIS about switch is OPTIONAL. For later Citizenship purposes, just stay with new employer for another 6 months. Munna Bhai is cent percent correct in his recommendations/statements....That is very well documented and discussed in immigration forums etc.

Interview process here (US) is SOMETIMES a joke. People who screen resumes sometimes don't know what they are looking at. Here if they don't find a simple WORD (technology ex JSP) they will not forwad your resume. They will say Oh you resume didn't have this so we can't forward this to the client, they don't even bother if the person knows the technologies mentioned in the resume or not. So you can understand what the candidate does next, he comes up with a new version of his rexxxx. Just to get the interview call.. and some how manages to cram the new stuff as much as he can for the interview.. this is a stupid interview process. Companies expect software engineers to be superman who know each and every technology out there in the market even if their project doesn't demand so much. I am not advocating India is better, it is still worse their.. i will stop here.. actually this thread what about discussing movies, AVATAR (I haven't seen yet), etc.

In the movie - the job interview scene shows how confidence can help win a job, but in reality these days even in the US - u have to give bookish answers to satisfy the interviewers technical questions.
Sometime back I was doing a phone interview at a huge MNC that has more than a lac employees worldwide and when I was answering questions, the interviewer would pause and ask me to repeat again. I did not realise or understand what was happening.
Later I found out that the interviewer was not the hiring manager, but just trained to do phone interviews and screen candidates. He was taking notes as I answered and lateron he compared them to book answers and seems like my answers were not bookish and I could not make it through though I thought I did well.
Such movies do have impact on real important things in life. I wish the whole world watches such movies.
