Stupid question but do I need to take original notices? I have scanned / digital copies from my lawyer and I want to know if I need to go the lawyer's office to collect original.

My in-laws got their visa at new delhi consulate on friday. first, they had a VO who asked them qs in english with accent. they were not able to understand a thing, so they requested him to ask qs in hindi after which he asked them to go to another counter where a young guy asked them qs in hindi. he was very polite and smiling all the time.
VO: Show me ur daughter's visa
we did not send them my wife's visa since i was sponsoring them.
Dad: We do not have daughter's visa. Here is son-in-law's visa
VO looked at the visa (I-797 and visa stamp copy), checked in computer for 4-5 mins and then asked
VO: Was it an arranged marriage?
Dad: Yes
VO: Tell me more about the process.
Dad: It was arranged marriage. My son-in-law's parents contacted us and then the girl and boy met each other and .....he described the process of arranged marriage.
VO smiled and asked: What do you do?
Dad: I am a businessman.
VO: What kind of business you do?
Dad told about his business
VO: Aapka Visa Manzoor ho gaya hai (Your visa has been approved).

so what are you going to do...go ahead and sue'em or be on the safer side....its easier to preach...don't have such cavalrous attitude when somebody's life's on the line....
You know what does it mean to be a "Law". AC21 is a law passed by Federal gov. and it is clearly stated that 180 days is from receipt date not notice date.
It looks like with your conservative approach, even after getting Green Card you will still hold H1b and work on H1b.

Where did you find the schedule for these bills of PACE act?
The senate calendar already has S.2197 scheduled - don't know a specific date, but it is listed there. It passed the committee last month and is now on the calendar.
About S.2198's possible schedule - I heard that from Sen Obama's office. He is one of the co-sponsors and he has agreed to recommend to the HELP committee (that is now considering S.2198) some of our concerns (I have been pestering him since Jan :) ).

On 4/10/07, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced the Securing Knowledge, Innovation and Leadership (SKIL) Act of 2007 (S. 1083). Hi,
i am glad somebody took initiative to create a Poll but as we can see there are very few responses as it may not be visible for many people rightaway.. I am not sure how this is done but I think we need to make people aware of this thought process..and put this Poll where everybody can see it..

Yes, even if you have I-94 from I-797, you still need to get a new I-94 because the green I-94 from I-797 does not have a stamp or an expiry date, so you need a new one.

Apply for I-485/EAD/AP, but do not use EAD/AP. As you have 3 more years left on H1. This is because in case your I-485 gets denied for whatever fancy reason, at least you will still be on H1. Also, you have a pending I-140.

Yes, I would highly recommend IV members to meet with their legislators.
1. We are letting them know that legal immigrants have our own problems too, and its just not always about amnesty or border security when it comes to Immigration reform.
2. When we go and meet with them, we realize how much or how little the legislators office know about our problem - which goes to show that if they don't know a problem exists, then obviously there cannot be any solutions.
3. We get over the jitters of meeting with the staff members when we talk to them - and when the time comes for us to really push for reform (when the bill is being debated), we can be very confident in our talking points and in how we deliver them. We will know what they ask for and are well prepared.
4. Last but not the least, if we cannot help ourselves, who will?
Do you think these staff will let their bosses know of our situation? and even if they do, do you seriously believe these lawmakers will do anything for us?

Now that we know she did not report to work, yes, the employer is off the hook. The onus though is now on the employee to maintain her status because she has an I-94 attached to her H-1b approval.
It is not always employer is 'abusing' the system, sometimes 'employees' too directly or indirectly. Honestly, gopudeep will not report this to DOL or USCIS. BTW, employer will not be in trouble because gopudeep did not report to work and the employer can get off the hook easily.

This is really bad; who sends the application first are the people having more wait. I know someone who filed on 2nd july and application reached on 2nd july and received by someother person there at NSC at 9.30am has received the receipt already. please any one whose application was received by B GERKENSMEYER and has recceived any update please post it here.

I am working on EAD and its been over 75 days since i filed for my renewal. I applied on June 15.
According to the processing time update, as of August 15 NSC has done processing for the I-765 application filed on or before March 31.
This means that USCIS takes 137 days to process I-765 application. Since USCIS accepts I-765 application just within 120days of expiration,officially no one can expect to get their EAD renewed within their expiration even if they applied on time.
People like me working on EAD have to loose job every time we apply for EAD renewal. (expect those luck few who get their EAD within 15,20 or 30 days..)

We should write to Zoe Lofgren, Chsair of the House Immigration Subcommittee, and Senator Ted Kennedy....USCIS ought to have some accountability. This is pure discrimination based on chance....you'll get your GC sooner if your aplication goes to NSC and it will languish if it goes to TSC. This is not fair. First you have the country quotas that discriminate based on national origin and then you have service center problems like these..
