More Conan in Poland!

You've seen a few Polish Conan comics in previous posts...well it's high time that I shared a whole lot more information about Conan in Poland, courtesy of our good friend and fellow Hyborian, Marek!

As far as books went, the definitive series released in Poland was the First Edition Complete, from Amber publishing. This series consisted of a whopping 72 volumes, mostly by western authors...but did include several works by Russian authors. In volume 24 of this series was the continuation of the story Legions of the dead, written by Polish fantasy author Konrad T. Lewandowski.

A host of other Conan novels were published in Poland as well, courtesy of a number of different publishers...

Conan, Polish Novels - Various

There is but one Conan novel by a Polish author to date – Pani Smierc ("Lady Death"), written by Jacek Piekara (under the pseudonym "Jack de Craft"), and published by Camelot. If this cover looks familiar to you, it's because I incorrectly referenced it in a previous post (which I've since fixed - thanks to Marek for the heads up)...

As far as Conan comics in Poland went, not a lot of success - a number of series were published, but quickly died. There were 5 issues from publisher AS-Editor (reprints of Marvel's The Savage Sword of Conan)...

Publisher TM-Semic released 9 comics, reprints of Marvel's Conan the Barbarian...

Publisher Egmont released 2 comics from the Dark Horse Conan run...

Mandragora published “Essential Conan”, the first 25 issues of Marvel's Conan the Barbarian, but sadly, only in black & white....

In times of socialism in Poland, there were also some fantasy club versions of Conan comics, but today these are extreme rarities...

Much of this information (and lots more) can be found at the most impressive Polish Conan site Conan.Fero.pl! And once again, many thanks to Marek, who has already sent me a bunch of other Conan goodies from Poland's neighboring countries!
