Two United States senators have proposed a bill that will give US workers first crack at technology job openings and toughen the H-1B visa program, reports said.
The Senators announced the filing of their bill on the same day that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services agency began accepting H-1B applications for the federal government's 2008 fiscal year.
The bill -- introduced by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) just before Congress departed for its spring recess -- is designed to curb abuse of the controversial worker visa system, CNET News.com reported.

If you have applied I-485 with new fee structure then the EAD and AP are free for fiirst time but at the time of the renewal you have to pay the fees for the EAD and AP.
Not correct! If you apply under the new fee regime by paying $1010 to file I-495 then you get AP and EAD renewed free until your 485 is approved no matter how many renewals that may be.

Getting married then divorce for GC purpose is going on for a while.
I think it costs around 5 to 10k for this.
Big loophole in the system.
One of my friend ( a taxi wala) did that...and happily settled.
Homeland security has to immediatel work on such matters ( you can get GC only if you are married and living together for atleast 7 years should be the rule) and illegal immigration.
INS and attorneys together are working hard to put america down.
If its sham marriage...they will come after you anytime. No matter how long you are here in the US. There are cases where even after 20 years, they will just revoke the Citizenship

Don't worry, there will not be any visa number wastage this year. I expect a flood of approvals starting August 1st itself. most of the remaining visas will be used in August itself and there may not be many visas left towards the end of September. Any campaign is unlikely to produce any meaningful results in such a short period- remember there are only 2 months left in this year and applying pressure will only distract USCIS from doing their job effectively. using up 20K visas in 2 months is not difficult especially since the dates have been advanced in this month's visa bulletin. USCIS is only processing EB1 and EB2 petitions so they should be able to adjudicate the petitions rather quickly to use up the visa numbers. campaign to use the visa numbers is more effective if done at the beginning of the year

We need to initiate a petition campaign to make sure that these 25K visas do get adjudicated before fiscal year �08 ends.
USCIS may well end up wasting a bulk of these visas, contending that since they are statutorily required to adjudicate all EAD applications within 90 days, and there is a surge in EAD renewals because of (a) July-07 visa bulletin fiasco; and (b) people applying for renewal this month, hoping to get 2 year EAD. Therefore, because of surge in EAD applications, they do not have resources to use up all of this year�s visa numbers.

Well I have one client... I'm guessing she's 50's-60's, and she probably wouldn't like that thing that moves around and flies off the screen! You got to remember, that probably most of the people on here are reasonably computer literate, but that does not mean that all of the general public is as computer smart as we are...
