As I said all this happened in 2009 and rental car incident happened on Sept 28,2009 at San Jose Int'l Airport, CA.
As soon as they see the "Temporary Tag" with a "Check CIS Status" comment on the back of license, some of them seem to freak out and some seem to jump at the opportunity to harass a immigrant.
The leasing office requested every document possible including my SSN card, my Indian passport, I-94, EAD, Pay Stub, Employment Letter after they saw the temporary tag. Luckily my EAD was expiring in 2011, otherwise they would have denied me the apartment with the pretense that it is valid for less that an year.
If you think there is a law which prohibits this, let me know. I can follow up with a lawyer and see if we can stop them harassing other people.

How can your I-485 get approved without the PD becoming current? Beats me..
It was specific question in related to filing Wife's I-485 later. i.e. If I file my I-485 now and not file my wife's I-485 now, then the PDs are bound to retrogress and I have to wait until my PD becomes current again to file for my wife's I485. My question was what is the risk that my I-485 gets approved before my PD becomes current AGAIN.

I have longtime back suggested that immigrationvoice.org should apply as an advrt publisher and get a google adsense account.
But, i have a better suggestion now, which will bring more revenue to immigrationvoice.org
Please apply for kontera ads. I have experience using both google adsense, kanoodle ads and kontera ads. Kontera ads have always fetched 5 times more revenue on websites with more content.
Coming back to google adwords. I have used google adwords for the past 15 months. Better results can be achieved by doing SEO optimizations rather than adwords. Adwords can get prohibitively expensive in immigration related matters as there are lawyers who will be competing with us for adwords placements.
Again, if we have decided to use adwords, then i suggest use an overture keyword tool to see, the popular keywords used by surfers on popular search engines.

Please tell me you're joking. There is no comparison between what Rosa Parks and her people had to go through and what we are going through. Don't even try to imagine what kind of difficulties the African-Americans had to face. Our lives are so much better today than what they had to face in the 50's and 60's. What we are going through is nothing compared to what Rosa Parks had to endure.
Don't forget, we came here by choice. Rosa Parks didn't have one.

1).We are asking for "re-issue of passport" when our existing passport is near to expiry?
2).Sending in application thru mail or handing it in personally, both options still require us to fill out the "online application" mentioned on the consular website?
3).The address that we want on the passport (as asked in the online form) is our US address?
4).What documents did you send for "proof of residence"?
5).Were any of these notarized?
6).For "Porfoma Verification" question 11 and 12, are we mentioning the original date of our leaving India the first time and consequently the number of years that we have lived in the US?

I got my new passport within one week from NY Consulate. Never called or emailed them!
My suggestion is wait atleast 4 weeks (the time they mention as required for processing) and if still worried try to contact them after that. Usually they contact if there is any problem. It may not be possible always to talk to somebody whenever people like to talk. It is always better if there are many customer service people to reply to all the applicants on all of their worries; reasonable or unreasonable.

Not just India. Most countries in the world has some form of protection for their country citizens. India and China does not have shortage of skills but always have shortage of jobs because of population. But USA has shortage of skills in many areas. When that will be addressed they may ask us to Pack our bags and or they may reduce the number of immigrants.

I applied (e-Filed - TSC) on Feb 02. I did not get the fingerprinting notice yet.
Update... I did not get FP notice, no notification email, but got my EAD card on 20th March.

Thanks for your response. My question is: Would the employer have to cancel I140 along with H1B? Also, do they have to cancel H1 as per law if an H1B employee leaves? If my employer knows about cancelling I140, they will surely do this to harm me.
H1 transfer to a new employer itself is a pain and thats the reason I was planning to use EAD.
The I 140 can be withdrawn by the employer any time (even after approval). Its withdrawal by the employer doesn't matter 180 days after 485 is filed if you can switch your jobs to a similar category mentioned in your labor certification/I 140 (either H1b transfer or EAD).
If you can't leave the employer on good terms you should transfer H1 (there is no need for approval before changing jobs). Merely filing H1b transfer with the USCIS allows you to work.
If I 140 is approved you should probably try to use the priority date to file for a new I 140 with the new employer.
This is the inherent problem with H1b .The employer can terminate your H1b (following the notice in your contract) and inform USICIS and also withdraw your I 140. Can't do anything about it.
Again not a legal opinion, just my 2 cents.

I am an AMS manager in an Boston based Semiconductor company. It will be tough for your friend to find something in this environment as most companies have instituted spending controls and a hiring freeze, including my own.
Good Luck to him. There are good options in B'lore if it comes to that. Salaries for AMS design engineers in India are about 60% to 70% of US levels. I can put him in touch if he PMs me.
